when the lighthouse glows

when the lighthouse glows

shadows fade down

on the rowboat hidden.

under the upper peninsula’s cold solitude sky,

beneath the icy blanket pieces,

memories of a numbed affection

tied in twine,

there they lie.

when the lighthouse glows

shadows fade down

and swims away in the black midnight waters.
